Beta hCG test can be taken as soon as 10 days after conception when you are expecting to get pregnant. Test results will be more precise if taken 1-2 weeks after missing your menstrual period.

Intravenous blood sample is used for this test, and no special preparation is required

Urine pregnancy test: This is a preliminary test to detect the presence of hCG hormone in the urine specimen.

In healthy men and non-pregnant healthy women, hCG levels are <2 and <10 mIU/mL, respectively. In women, after 10-14 days of the last menstrual cycle; an hCG level of > 10 mIU/mL is considered positive for pregnancy. The levels of HCG keep increasing in the first trimester of pregnancy.

As the name implies, a qualitative hCG test only indicates presence or absence of the hormone. On the other hand, a quantitative hCG test represents the accurate value of hormone concentration in the blood sample. Hence, it is widely used as a confirmatory test for pregnancy.

The Beta hCG test is considered to be the most accurate. However, the following factors can affect the result, and repeat testing is recommended in such cases Positive result (in case of non-pregnant women) Possible reasons - menopause, usage of hormone supplements, use of hCG-containing medications Negative result (in case of pregnant women) Possible reasons if test is taken too early after conception

hCG hormone is secreted by the placenta upon successful fertilisation of the egg. In women, high stress may lead to changes in hormones, namely progesterone and oestrogen. However, it does not interfere with the hCG levels.
